Clemson flexes muscles in Orange Bowl pounding of Oklahoma

It was odd that a Clemson team ranked #1 and 13-0 had so many doubters heading into their Orange Bowl National Semi-Final with Oklahoma. I wonder if many of these doubters really watched the Tigers this year.

deshaun-watson-starterWell they probably realized now that Clemson is one of the two best teams in the country after their dismantling of Oklahoma.

It was evident from moment the game started, Clemson was better at both lines of scrimmage. As much as Clemson is a hurry-up and spread offense, this is a physical team.

That is what separates Clemson now from five years ago. Clemson always had skill position talent, but they weren’t strong enough at the lines to compete at the highest level.

They are now.

Shaq Lawson, Clemson’s All-American defensive lineman goes down with injury, and the Tigers Defensive Line still manhandled Oklahoma upfront. Clemson’s Offensive  line pounded the Sooners for 312 yards on the ground.

Now Clemson is 60 minutes from the ultimate prize, the National Championship. Ever since Clemson beat a top 10 LSU team in the Chick-Fil-A bowl in 2012, they have been building towards playing for the Championship. The wins over LSU, Ohio State, Georgia, Auburn, Florida State etc all were part of the process of getting to this point.

Clemson will face an outstanding Alabama team that crushed Michigan State in the Cotton Bowl.

Can the Tigers pull it off? I don’t see why not. Clemson QB Deshaun Watson is the type of dual threat QB that has given the Tide trouble in the past. The Tigers are light years better on offense than anything  Alabama has seen this year.

At the same time Alabama will be the best defense the Tigers have seen, and we know the pedigree of Alabama. They are the current standard in college football.

The two best teams in the country facing each other for the national title. What more could you ask for?

Oh yea the ACC for the 2nd time in 3 years has a team playing for the national title. Hats off to Clemson for a great season, that still has one more game to go.
