Cameron Wright heating up for Pitt heading into ACC play

For most of this season, the Pitt men's basketball team has played without Cameron Wright in the lineup as he was recovering from offseason foot surgery. Wright returned for the team's game against Duquesne, but struggled early on. He recorded only one minute in that game and scored a single point in 21 minutes against St. Bonaventure.

Since then, however, Wright has started to get back on track. The senior has scored at least 14 points in three of the next four games and since that slow start, has averaged 13 points and four rebounds per game. Wright has also become one of the team's most efficient scorers over that stretch, shooting a blistering 55% from the field. That has come after an 0-6 start in his first two games. Defensively, he has looked pretty good to me in the last couple of games.

Wright's game, as we know, has always been limited. That's not likely to change, either. He remains a poor three-point shooter and free throw shooter. And so far this year, Wright is averaging more turnovers and fewer assists. His A/TO ratio is practically 1:1, which is pretty bad for a guard.

Wright isn't a star - that much is pretty clear. And currently, Mike Young has been the team's best player. Still, it's good to see him getting on track a little and his presence just makes the team better, as Jamie Dixon has alluded to. Getting Wright not only back in the lineup, but in there and contributing, is a good thing for the Panthers.
