Wake Forest
It wasn’t all that long ago that Wake Forest had an 11 win top 15 season. That was in 2021, followed up by an 8 win season. Since then, the Deacs have gone 8-16 (3-13). The program is in its worst shape in a decade, and with Dave Clawson’s retirement, Wake Forest is truly starting over. Jacke Dickert is in to revitalize a program the way Jim Grobe and Dave Clawson once did. Wake Forest can be pretty solid; we’ve seen it, but this could be one tough rebuild.
Will Go 6-6 (3-5) if:
Wake Forest can start 3-0. A bowl is the target for the Deacs. If Wake Forest can beat Kennesaw State, Western Carolina, and score an upset over NC State, then a 4th win should come against Delaware. Then Wake Forest can find a couple more wins. They’ll have one of the better RBs in the ACC in Demond Claiborne. If the offensive line can just be functional, then Claiborne and the run game can keep Wake Forest in a lot of games. Then you always have a chance to steal some wins.
Will Go 3-9 (0-8) if:
Wake Forest can’t get a win over NC State at home, UNC at home, at Virginia, or at Duke. Those feel like the best chance for Wake Forest to get an ACC win or two. If they don’t win one of those games, there is a good chance Wake Forest goes winless in the ACC. There is some uncertainty on this roster, and with the new coaching staff, it could very well take a couple of years to turn the roster into a competitive one in the ACC. Wake Forest may be underdogs in every one of their ACC games.
