Boston College
Some 6-7 win seasons are built differently, and Boston College has had a lot of them. Since 2013 the Eagles have had a 6 or 7 wins in every single season, but two. Those were the 3 win seasons 2015 and 2022. In walks Bill O’Brien with his wealth of coaching experience, including in the NFL, and he went 7-6 in year one. If you look at the season, though, BC lost 5 of their 6 games by 10 points or less. They were very close to being an 8 or 9 team. The Eagles were well-coached, physical, and tough. If there is a coach who can get the Eagles over the 7-win mark, Bill O’Brien might be the coach to do it in the next year or two.
Will Go 8-4 (5-3) if:
BC can get off to a fast start on the season. To have an 8-4 type season, the Eagles need to get out of the gate with a 4-1 or 5-0 record. After Fordham games at Michigan State and at Stanford are winnable, before hosting Cal and Pitt. BC can’t afford to lose more than 1 of those because after that the schedule really gets difficult with Clemson, at Louisville, Notre Dame, Georgia Tech, and a game at Syracuse. BC still isn’t settled at QB between Dylan Lonergan and Grayson James, and if either can move that offense past last year’s ranking of 90th, BC could surprise.
Will Go 3-9 (1-7) if:
Some early losses start spiraling the season out of control. There will be no recovery time for BC if those first 5 games are a 1-4 or 2-3. Where will the wins come from? Fordham and UConn might be the only games BC is a significant favorite. Questions across both sides of the ball could have the offense and defense struggling. There aren’t a lot of elite playmakers when you look at the roster going into the season.
