ACCting Up: ACC Week 4 Preview, Schedule, TV Times

As ya'll might know, I usually spend my Saturdays chasing ol' State around the midwest. But the Nits are off this week, so I'm looking forward to watching these ACC teams with a little more critical eye on Saturday. With that, let's get to this week's slate outside of the Pitt game.

In the Coastal

-This week will start with a good one when Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech meet (Thursday, 7:30 p.m., ESPN). The Hokies might be the most battle-tested team in the conference at this point between opening against Alabama and holding off a pair of better-than-advertised mid-majors in East Carolina and Marshall. Georgia Tech, meanwhile, needed to work a little bit last week to defeat North Carolina after steamrolling its first two over-matched opponents. This game should offer a pretty good indication of which team is better prepared to challenge Miami in the division.

Hokies defeat Georgia Tech 17-10

-Speaking of the Hurricanes, they'll get a look at the burning tire fire that is South Florida (Saturday, noon, ESPNU) in preparation for next week's showdown with Georgia Tech.  The only compelling reason to flip this one on will be to gawk at how bad a team that was Pitt's peer only months ago is and thank your ACC gods the Panthers escaped.

-North Carolina isn't in great shape at 1-2 and probably isn't thrilled to see an East Carolina team that gave Virginia Tech fits (Saturday, 12:30 p.m., ESPN3). That said, if the Heels can pull this one out to get to 2-2, they could build some genuine momentum heading into a tough two-game stretch of  games against the Hokies and 'canes. Quarterback Bryn Renner needs to get back on track after a 14-of-29 for 218 yards, two touchdowns and one pick performance last week against the wreck.

Elsewhere: Duke hosts Troy (Saturday, 3 p.m., ESPN3)

In the Atlantic

Florida State travels to face a Boston College team was last saw giving up 35 points to a Southern Cal team that can't score (Saturday, 3:30 p.m., ABC). N.C. State will look to bounce back from a tough loss against Clemson when it hosts Central Michigan (Saturday, 3:30 p.m., ESPN3) and Clemson will face Wake Forest (Saturday, 3:30 p.m., ESPNU) at home.So yeah. Not a whole lot going on there.
