ACC Bowl Projections for 11/17

Just when  you think you have the ACC Bowl pictured figured out all kinds of surprising stuff happens over the weekend. The ACC could end up with 10 bowl eligible teams, so will every ACC team find a spot? Syracuse is the odd man out this week, but I believe they will end up somewhere.

* The Kraft Fight Hunger could be a bowl destination if the ACC gets a 9th bowl eligible team, but only if BYU and the Pac 12 can’t fulfill their commitment to the bowl.

Fri, Dec 27 2:30 pm ESPN
Military Bowl presented by Northrop Grumman
Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium, Annapolis, MD
C-USA vs. ACC No. 8

Projected Matchup: Maryland vs Middle Tennessee

The Maryland based Military Bowl would be pleased to get Maryland here. That was a gut check win in Blacksburg, to get the Terrapins bowl eligible.

Belk Bowl
Bank of America Stadium, Charlotte, NC
AAC No. 3 vs. ACC No. 5

Projected Matchup: North Carolina vs Houston

North Carolina shoots up the bowl lineup after their win at Pittsburgh. The Belk Bowl won’t pass on the local team. Larry Fedora has rallied his team together for a solid 2nd half.

Sat, Dec 28 6:45 pm ESPN

Russell Athletic Bowl
Florida Citrus Bowl, Orlando, FL
ACC No. 3 vs. AAC No. 2

Projected Matchup: Miami vs. Louisville

The Hurricanes can thank Virginia Tech’s meltdown that they hold on to this spot. Teddy Bridgewater must be excited to play this defense that just keeps getting worse.

Mon, Dec 30 3:15 pm ESPN

Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl
LP Field, Nashville, TN
SEC No. 7 vs. ACC No. 6

Projected Matchup: Georgia Tech  vs Vanderbilt

A nice regional matchup that will  sell a lot of tickets with the hometown Commodores and the nearby Yellow Jackets. If Georgia Tech can somehow defeat Georgia they can leapfrog several teams, maybe all the way to Chick Fil A bowl…

Tue, Dec 31 12:30 pm ESPN

AdvoCare V100 Bowl
Independence Stadium, Shreveport, LA
ACC No. 7 vs. SEC

Projected Matchup: Boston College vs Notre Dame

What a turnaround by Boston College this season. I don’t believe the SEC will be able to fill their spot here. I’ve seen several projections for the ACC opponent here. You know what Notre Dame needs a bowl game.

Tue, Dec 31 2 pm CBS

Hyundai Sun Bowl
Sun Bowl, El Paso, TX
ACC No. 4 vs. Pac-12 No. 4

Projected Matchup: Virginia Tech vs UCLA

Virginia Tech is so lucky they get to finish the season against the ACC’s worst team in Virginia. They probably don’t deserve the Sun Bowl, but at 8-4 they will get a spot here. They can still get to the ACCCG, but not if Duke wins out.

Tue, Dec 31 8 pm ESPN

Chick-fil-A Bowl
Georgia Dome, Atlanta, GA
ACC No. 2 vs. SEC No. 5

Projected Matchup: Duke vs South Carolina

It’s funny people keep questioning what’s happening in Durham. Those people obviously don’t really follow college all that closely. Duke is an improving team that’s gaining confidence. Is there a more deserving ACC team that should play in the Chick-fil-A Bowl? I don’t see one.

Fri, Jan 3 TBD ESPN

Discover Orange Bowl
Sun Life Stadium, Miami Gardens, FL
BCS vs. BCS (ACC champion if not in BCS championship)

Projected Matchup: Clemson vs Wisconsin

Stanford’s loss to USC cripples the chances of a second Pac 12 BCS team. For Clemson playing Wisconsin is a more favorable mathcup than Oregon, but obviously not an easy one still. Wisconsin is a pretty solid team. Michigan St. is also in play here.

Mon, Jan 6 8:30 pm ESPN

VIZIO BCS National Championship
Rose Bowl, Pasadena, CA
BCS No 1 vs. BCS No 2

Projected Matchup: Alabama vs. Florida State

Florida State can already start making their reservations for Pasadena. Alabama did not look dominant against a bad Mississippi St. team. They still have Auburn, and the SEC Title game left. Ohio State waits and prays.
