ACC Basketball: On the MarchMadnessCouch instead of Dancing

In 1979 zero teams from North Carolina made it to the NCAA round of 16 which later became known as the Sweet 16.  Coincidentally that is the same season the ACC as a league failed to be one of sixteen teams left.  Let us not kid ourselves thinking the league as a whole was great for thirty five years because without Duke and North Carolina paving the way that streak would have ended many years ago.  Fans in the ACC are typically watching fellow teams cheering for or hoping the Tar Heels and Blue devils are upset early. Thank you Coach K and company for the epic fail in the first round yet again.  With all the ACC teams sitting on the #MarchMadnessCouch we have plenty of things to talk about while the Dayton’s of the world keep wearing Cinderella’s slipper.

After losing to Mercer in the first round of the NCAA tournament Coach K was lauded for his gesture of speaking to the Mercer team congratulating them on their win.  Granted Coach K has won many games as well as four National Titles, but where is the criticism for yet again losing to a team I have to google to locate with arguably the best player in the ACC with Jabari Parker?

Lost in North Carolina’s season is the job Roy Williams did after PJ Hairston was removed from the team.  This North Carolina team was limited offensively and found away to real off twelve straight league wins and had Iowa State on the ropes for breaking down the last three minutes to go.  The future for the Tar Heels is bright with Marcus Paige and most likely the return of McAdoo to facilitate the growth of three talented freshman that will arrive this fall.

Heading into the season NC State Coach Gottfried was replacing five starters and had one of his best underclassmen in Rodney Purvis transfer to UCONN.  They lost in the NCAA in game they could have pulled away in however before the season the Wolfpack fan base probably would have told you an NIT bid would be acceptable however March does breed Madness.  Just check out the following NC State tweets:

I would stay and let you in on more topics from the the MarchMadnessCouch however the @TobaccoRoadMayor invited Wojo over and I need to go cover my hardwood floors before he starts slapping them.
