Pitt received some good news this morning as they landed Damon Wilson for the 2015 recruiting class. Adam Zagoria reports that he chose the Panthers over the likes of Florida, Miami, Florida State, Georgia, and Georgia Tech.  Wilson is a 6-4 lefty guard that plays for Our Savior New American in Centereach, New York.

If you notice, plenty of southern schools have seemingly offered Wilson, and that is because he is initially from the state of Georgia. Wilson is a 6-4 guard with a number of BCS level offers and is graded as a four-star recruit by Rivals, and a three-star by both ESPN and Scout. Here is what Damon's coach had to say about the commitment from the ZagsBlog story:

"Damon wanted to play in the best conference in the country in the ACC for one of the best coaches in the country," Our Savior coach Eric Jaklitsch said. "He will get to play with James Robinson, who will be a senior when he is a freshman, and also learn from former point guard and Big East Player of the Year, Brandin Knight. He also has a friend on the team in current Pitt freshman Mike Young."

Obviously it is a bit premature to get too excited about Wilson as he is only set to begin his junior year of high school basketball. Still, it is nice to get a head start on next year's recruiting efforts, and land a talented player from New York City in the process.

Pitt and recruiting has been tough to keep track of lately. With the transfer debacle of last year and Pitt currently having recruits committed in three different classes will do that to you, but here is a brief rundown of where everything stands at the moment.

  • Pitt has 11 current scholarship players for this season and the max is 13. It is unclear, but perhaps four star shooting guard, Detrick Mostella could be joining the team in December, and he would make for 12.
  • Pitt has received two commitments for the 2014 class with local forwards, Sheldon Jeter and Ryan Luther. Pitt will have one more scholarship to give out, assuming Mostella does indeed enroll.
  • Damon Wilson is the first player to commit for the 2015 class
  • Maverick Rowan committed earlier in the year, as he is a 2016 prospect.
