Today's second round matchup features the 8 seed Duke Blue Devils 1990-91 against the 9 seed Duke Blue Devils 2009-10Duke 09-10 defeated Boston College 2005-06 in the first round.

Duke 09-10 leads the series 1-0

Notes: Jon Scheyer scored 33 points on 13-17 shooting and 6-7 from three point range and also added 8 assists to lead the 09-10 Blue Devils to the win.  Kyle Singler added 19 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists and Brian Zoubek added a near double-double of 10 points and 8 rebounds.  Only Christian Laettner (11 pts, 6 rebs) and Grant Hill (10 pts, 5 rebs) reached double figures for Duke 90-91 in the loss.  As a team, the 90-91 Blue Devils shot just 32% from the floor and 1-11 from long distance.

Notes: For the second straight game Jon Scheyer dominated play, scoring 27 points on 9-16 shooting and also added 7 assists and 5 rebounds.  The rest of the 09-10 Blue Devils didn't shoot as well, but 15 offensive rebounds made up for the offensive inefficiency and allowed 09-10 Duke to take nearly 20 more field goal attempts.  Christian Laettner led 90-91 Duke with 15 points and 8 rebounds in the loss.

Duke 09-10 sweeps the series 3-0

Notes: Kyle Singler picked up the slack as Jon Scheyer's shot wasn't falling as consistently as games one and two, as Singler scored 25 points and added 7 rebounds to lead Duke 09-10 to the series win.  Singler's offensive rebound and putback in the final seconds gave Duke 09-10 the win.  Scheyer added 15 points and 7 rebounds and Nolan Smith added 12 points to provide some scoring support.  Christian Laettner scored 23 points on 7-10 shooting  and 3-4 from long range, while Bill McCaffrey (11 pts) and Bobby Hurley (11 pts) also reached double-figures.  Duke 09-10 now moves on to the Elite 8 to take on #1 seed Duke 91-92.

Interestingly enough, Duke 09-10 vs Duke 90-91 has now been simmed 42 times with an average score of Duke 90-91 73.2, Duke 09-10 75.3.  The 42 matchups have been split with 21 wins a piece.  It just goes to show that in games one and two that Duke 90-91 simply didn't show up and didn't get the breaks.  That's the beauty of our sim, sometimes the odds fall heavily to one side, and sometimes it happens two games in a row.
