Notes: Lonny Baxter scored 20 points and added 9 rebounds and Juan Dixon added 17 points as the Maryland Terrapins won game one in the best of 5 series. Chris Wilcox finished with 15 points and 9 rebounds on 6-9 shooting as the only other player to finish in double-figures for the Terps. The Maryland defense held Duke to 46% shooting and held Duke star Johnny Dawkins to 7-16 shooting and just 14 points. Mark Alarie led the Blue Devils with 29 points, but simply didn't have enough help.

Notes: Johnny Dawkins and David Henderson scored 26 points a piece and Mark Alarie added 16 points as Duke tied the series at one. The Blue Devils had a 30-22 rebounding advantage and took 15 more free throw attempts, making 13 more to give Duke the advantage in game two. Maryland was led by Juan Dixon's 20 points, while Lonny Baxter (14 pts, 5 rebs) and Drew Nicholas (11 pts) added double-figures in the loss.

Notes: David Henderson made 10-15 shots and scored 22 points and added 6 rebounds to lead Duke in game three. Johnny Dawkins added 20 points and 7 rebounds and Mark Alarie added 16 points and 7 rebounds to give Duke some scoring balance. The Blue Devils shot nearly 60% from the floor and held Maryland's two guards, Juan Dixon and Steve Blake, to a combined 6-21 shooting. Maryland was led by 16 points a piece from Lonny Baxter and Chris Wilcox. Baxter made 5-6 shots and 6-8 from the free throw line and added 6 rebounds, but got in early foul trouble guarding Alarie making him less effective.

Notes: Duke shot 63% from the floor for the game and was led by Johnny Dawkins' 22 points. Dawkins made 9-13 shots and also led the Blue Devils with 6 rebounds in the series deciding fourth game. David Henderson (19 pts) and Mark Alarie (14 pts, 6 rebs) also added double-figures. Juan Dixon led the Terps with 21 points and Byron Mouton and Lonny Baxter each added 16 points, but it wasn't enough to keep Maryland alive in the series. Duke 85-86 will move on to the Elite 8 to face the winner of #3 UNC 81-82 and #14 Duke 77-78.
