Today's second round matchup features the 7 seed North Carolina Tarheels 2004-05 against the 10 seed North Carolina State Wolfpack 1982-83. NC State 82-83 defeated FSU 92-93 three games to two in the opening round.

Notes: Ernie Meyers scored 17 points to lead the Wolfpack and Dereck Whittenburg added 16 points as NC State jumped out to a 1-0 series lead. Thurl Bailey (13 pts, 7 rebs) and Lorenzo Charles (10 pts) each added double-figures as well. The Pack's advantage came from behind the arc where they were extremely effiicient making 6 of 9 3 point shots. UNC was led by 18 points from Raymond Felton, while Jawad Williams and Rashad McCants added 14 points a piece. Sean May was held to 9 points and made just 5-12 free throws in the loss.

Notes: NC State shot 65% from the floor and held UNC to 42% and the Pack dominated the boards with a 36-19 advantage. Thurl Bailey led the Pack with 25 points and added 9 rebounds on 8-13 shooting and 9-10 free throws. Lorenzo Charles added a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds, while Ernie Meyers (16 pts), Sidney Lowe (15 pts, 7 asts, 5 rebs), and Dereck Whittenburg (10 pts) all added double-figures too. Raymond Felton led the Heels for the second straight game with 16 points.

NC State sweeps the series 3-0
Notes: Thurl Bailey led a balanced attack with a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds and led the Wolfpack to the Elite 8. Terry Gannon added 13 points and Sidney Lowe added 12 points and 6 assists in the win. NC State's defense held UNC to just 44% shooting as Rashad McCants led the Heels with 16 points but on just 6-15 shooting. Jawad Williams added 14 points while Raymond Felton finished with 11 points after leading the Heels in the first two games of the series. NC State 82-83 will now move on to face the #2 seed UNC 08-09 in the Elite 8.
