We're running a tournament to find out who is the best ACC Team of all-time.  Read more about it here.

Today's play-in matchup features the 10 seed NC State Wolfpack 1982-83 versus the 23 seed Florida State Seminoles 1992-93

The winner of the best of 5 series will get #7 UNC 04-05 next.

Game 1

FSU 92-93: 80
NC State 82-83: 79

FSU leads the series 1-0

Notes: Sidney Lowe posted a triple double with 13 points, 10 assists, and 10 rebounds, but it wasn't enough to push the Wolfpack past FSU in game 1.  Sam Cassell hit a clutch runner in the lane with under a second remaining to lift FSU to the win.  The basket gave Cassell 20 points to lead the Noles.  Bob Sura (17 pts, 7 rebs), Doug Edwards (14 pts, 5 rebs), and Rodney Dobard (12 pts, 9 rebs) also scored in double-figures.  For NC State, Thurl Bailey provided the scoring punch with 25 points on 10-13 shooting.

Game 2

NC State 82-83: 81
FSU 92-93: 72

The series is tied 1-1

Notes: Thurl Bailey, Ernie Myers, and Dereck Whittenbug scored 15 points a piece to lead NC State to the victory in game two.  Bailey was nearly unstoppable again, going 7-9 from the floor and is now 17-22 shooting in the series.  FSU was led by 21 points from Sam Cassell and 18 points from Bob Sura.  The difference of the two teams was clearly on the free throw line where NC State made 16-18 (88%), while FSU struggled going 16-30 (53%).

Game 3

NC State 82-83: 79
FSU 92-93: 78

NC State leads the series 2-1

Notes: Sidney took his turn as hero, as the NC State point guard hit a 3 pointer at the buzzer to lift NC State to the victory and the series lead 2-1.  Lowe looked for his shot all night scoring 19 points and adding 5 assists.  Lowe was 7-19 from the floor and 4-8 from 3 point range.  Bob Sura scored 23 points for FSU, but after averaging 20+ points a game in the first 2 games, Sam Cassell was held to 7 points on 2-7 shooting.

Game 4

FSU 92-93: 74
NC State 82-83: 65

The series is tied 2-2

Notes: Sam Cassell finished with 20 points and 6 rebounds bouncing back after a tough game three to keep FSU's hopes alive in the series.  Bob Sura added 17 points and 9 rebounds and Doug Edwards posted a double-double of 15 points and 13 rebounds in the win.  FSU dominated the boards which was the difference in the game despite once again struggling from the free throw line.  NC State's offense never found a rhythm, shooting just 39% from the floor.  Thurl Bailey led the Pack with 18 points in the loss.

Game 5

NC State 82-83: 90
FSU 92-93: 61

NC State wins the series 3-2

Notes: It was almost sad to see such a great series end in such a dud of a game, but nevertheless NC State moves on after trouncing FSU in game five.  Dereck Whittenburg led the Pack with 19 points on 8-10 shooting, while Thurl Bailey added 16 points and 9 rebounds.  The NC State offense was too good, making 63% of their shots, 82% of their free throws, and made 4 of 5 from long range.  After digging an early hole due to turnovers, the FSU offense started to rely on the 3 point shot and never really played like the FSU team we saw in the first four games of the series.  NC State will now move on to play the #7 seed UNC 04-05.
