Last Power Rankings from 12/28
- Duke - Duke opened up conference play with a 74-53 win over Clemson where the Blue Devils held the Tigers to just 12 first half points. While the Blue Devils dominated a really good Clemson team, they will need to get more than 14 points from players not named Scheyer, Smith, and Singler.
- UNC - The Heels had a week that saw wins over Rutgers and Albany and while the average margin of win was was 15.5, Roy Williams left both games not feeling great about the way his team is playing. Williams had a short press conference where he vented after the Albany game and the Heels saw 2 practices the day after in which multiple Heels tweeted about the rigorous nature of the practices.
- Wake Forest - Ish Smith was incredible in Wake's win over Xavier and the Demon Deacons are quietly having a really good year. If Al-Farouq Aminu can step his play up just a bit, Wake could be as good as anyone in the ACC.
- Miami - Miami got a good win at Pepperdine on Sunday but can the Canes carry their winning ways to conference play? Miami is already 0-1 after a loss to BC and gets Wake Forest on Saturday.
- Clemson - The conference opener brought up a number of questions for the Tigers. Where was the Clemson offense in the first half against Duke? What do the Tigers need to do to get more offensively out of Trevor Booker? Does Purnell need to cut down his rotation?
- Virginia Tech - The win against Seton Hall in Cancun was very impressive, particularly when you consider the Hokies were playing without Malcolm Delaney. Dorenzo Hudson did his best Delaney impression scoring 41 in the win and Jeff Allen showed up with a double-double.
- FSU
- Georgia Tech - Good to see Iman Shumpert return in Tech's win over Charlotte on Saturday.
- Maryland
- Virginia
- NC State - It will be interesting to see how the Pack bounces back after an incredibly difficult loss against Florida.
- Boston College - The postseason hopes likely went away with a loss to Maine in the past week and Al Skinner's seat may have gotten hotter.
Notes
- This week sees a few interesting non-conference matchups as UNC plays at College of Charleston tonight, Georgia Tech goes to Georgia and Duke plays in Chicago against Iowa State.
- On Saturday, conference play starts a span of 8 days where there are 17 conference games. Saturday alone will give you 8 hours of ACC basketball on TV starting at Noon.
