Wolford and Carney 'good to go' for Georgia Tech game

Wake Forest will get have its starting running back and quarterback for the Georgia Tech game this weekend

Wake Forest had its normal Tuesday press conference today, and since last week was a bye week there was some question surrounding the injuries of starting quarterback John Wolford and running back Cade Carney.

Head coach Dave Clawson put to rest any fears that fans may have about the available for those two for this weekend’s tilt in Atlanta against Georgia Tech:

John Wolford missed the game against Clemson with an injury to his non-throwing shoulder that was sustained in the 26-19 loss to Florida State. There is some question as to whether or not he could have gone if Wake had been playing against a team that was not the defending national champions, but after the bye week he is ready to get back out there.

On the year Wolford is 74-117 (63.2%) with 8 touchdowns and just 1 interception. He has also accrued 380 yards on the ground on 60 attempts and 4 touchdowns (6.3 yards per carry) to lead the Deacs.

Running back Cade Carney has missed the past two games with what was announced as a rib injury. Matt Colburn and Arkeem Byrd were able to handle the running back duties against Florida State and Clemson, but it will be good to have all three to use against the Yellow Jackets.

Carney has 36 carries for 123 yards and a touchdown on the year (3.4 yards per carry).

Having Wolford back will allow Wake Forest will get back in the flow of its normal offense and hopefully pick up where it left off after the first four games of the season.

The running game has been pretty poor outside of the quarterbacks running. I am unsure if the scheme is just bad or if the offensive line and running backs are just failing to execute in a reasonable fashion.

Regardless, Georgia Tech is susceptible on defense to a strong running game so it would be nice if something would click for a running back or two.
