Game Recap

The future of Virginia Tech football just got a little bit brighter after the total destruction of an 11-win Tulane football. Yes, Tulane was without the star QB Michael Pratt, and former HC Will Fritz is off to Houston. Still, that set up an opportunity for Virginia Tech. The Hokies took advantage.

Virginia Tech destroyed Tulane 41-20, as the Hokies ran for a whopping 362 yards in a driving rainstorm. QB Kryon Drones continues to develop as one of the best returning dual-threat quarterbacks in the country.  He ran for 176 yards while throwing 2 TDS in the bowl game.

HC Brent Pry had a 3-8 (1-6) season in his first year at Virginia. This year saw a 4 game improvement for a 7-6 (5-3) season, that included the Hokies first bowl win since 2016. It was just about the bowl win though, the signs of Virginia Tech’s improvement have been adding up since a 1-3 start. They finished the year winning 6 of their last 9 games, and in their final 4 games, they were even better.

They blew out Boston College, Virginia, and Tulane. Their only loss was a 7-point defeat to one of the ACC’s hottest 2nd half teams in the North Carolina State Wolfpack.

Drones got better. The OLine got better. The line got better.

Just about everything about Virginia Tech was better after September. This is a program that’s starting to turn the corner.

Now as you look towards 2024, Virginia Tech fans can be optimistic. The schedule is very favorable.  The Hokies three toughest on-paper games are Clemson, Miami, and Georgia Tech. Two of those are in Lane Stadium – Clemson and Georgia Tech.

Virginia Tech certainly has a chance to be next year’s Louisville.

The good times may not be far off in Blacksburg once again.
