North Carolina commit Rechon Black transferring to Cox Mill for senior season

On Wednesday afternoon, Inside Carolina’s Sherrell McMillan reported that class of 2018 UNC commit Rechon Black had decided to move back to Concord, North Carolina for his final year of high school.

The 6-foot-7, 180-pound point guard will spend his senior season at Cox Mill High School where he can be closer to his family and the community he grew up in; both of which played a large role in bringing him back home before moving to Chapel Hill next year.

“We’re absolutely thrilled to have a young man with the talent and character of Leaky Black,” Cox Mill head coach Jody Barbee told McMillan. “He’s going to succeed in the classroom, and adding him to a team that won the state championship last year gives us a chance to really do something special next season.”

The junior guard spent his first two seasons at Concord High School before transferring to Montverde Academy in 2016.

Black will team up with class of 2019 five-star prospect Wendell Moore. Moore is a 6-foot-5, 210-pound small forward from the class of 2019 and considered the No. 25 prospect in the class of 2019 according to the 247Sports Composite ranking.

Moore is being recruited by a number of big-name programs including North Carolina. Roy Williams began recruiting Moore as a freshman and subsequently offered him a scholarship in the same season.

Tar Heels fans have to wonder if the relationship between Black and Moore will help sway the latter to a decision that lands him in Chapel Hill. Current projections favor North Carolina over Duke in Moore’s recruitment, but plenty of time remains between now and the fall of 2019.
