UNC Football: Tar Heels open as twelve point favorites vs California

The Tar Heels will host California on Saturday as strong favorites in the season opener.

College football is back on Thursday, which means for a lot of people, gambling season is back.

When Vegas opened up the books for this Saturday’s game against California, they heavily favored North Carolina.

The Tar Heels opened as a 12 point favorite for Saturday’s season opener against the Golden Bears.

This line is subject to change before game time, as people will bet this number up or down. But there is no debating the Heels will be the favorite in Chapel Hill this Saturday.

The Heels also opened up as a -500 favorite on the money line, meaning the Tar Heels are more favored to win this game than Floyd Mayweather was to beat Conor McGregor. This means you would have to bet $500 on the Heels just to win $100!

The big time difference is one of the main factors the Heels are heavy favorites.

The game will be kicking off at 12:20 EST, which equates to 9:20 pacific time. The Golden Bears will likely still be a little groggy at noon. Cal will also be rolling out a new head coach this year, following the departure of Sonny Dykes.

But a good sign for California might be their strong record in season openers.

They have gone 8-2 in the last ten season openers, whether it be at home or on the road. That is a pretty strong record compared to the Heels 6-4 record.

There are more betting options on the game though. You can bet on the over/under, which is currently 56. In a game with two perennially good offenses, betting the over in this game would seem to be a good idea.

Just from the look of things, betting on the Heels could be a wise choice. Despite struggling in openers under Larry Fedora, this time the Heels are at home, and they are also clearly the better team. In my opinion, the Heels should be able to cover against California pretty easily.
