A new exhibit is open at Laney High School where Michael Jordan played.

Before Michael Jordan played at the University of North Carolina, he attended Laney High School in Wilmington, North Carolina.

It was there where Jordan didn’t make the varsity team right away and had to play JV before earning his spot. The rest after that? History.

Jordan would go on to have a historic career at UNC and in the NBA for the Chicago Bulls and Washington Wizards.

But he hasn’t forgotten Laney.

The school underwent some new renovations recently with some big changes to its gym with a Jordan Brand theme.

The new renovations for the gym were completed and unveiled this past week. The new gymnasium will include the following per WECT:

  • 2 new boys team rooms and 2 new girls team rooms
  • 1 renovated boys locker room and 1 renovated girls locker room
  • 1 Athletic Director’s office with a new workspace
  • 2 Coaches offices with 2 new workspaces
  • 2 classrooms
  •  A new lobby with a concessions area and public restrooms

But the coolest feature is a collection of Air Jordans.

The new exhibit features a collection of all-white Air Jordan retros from 1-30 in a glass case with a Jordan Laney jersey in between the pairs.  Rare photos of Jordan from his time at Laney High School are also on displayed.

Take a look at the new items on display:

At center court a giant Jumpman logo has been installed to add some more flair to the court.

The gym is open and ready for the 2017-18 high school basketball season and will be one of the coolest gyms to play at in the state of North Carolina.
