Transfer wire.

  • UConn’s Alex Oriakhi who is still going through the process of visiting schools. After Mason Plumlee announced his return to Duke, Oriakhi removed the Blue Devils from his list. At present Orakhi has entertained in-home visits from Kentucky’s John Calipari, Missouri’s Frank Haith and Xavier’s Chris Mack with plans to visit both Missouri and Kentucky in the works. Oriakhi is friends with Missouri player Phil Pressey having played basketball with him since eighth grade. Newly committed UK recruit Nerlens Noel has been working Twitter to try and convince Oriakhi to head to Lexington. Conversely, UNC and Roy Williams have been very quiet so far which is not unusual but sure to create plenty of angst in the fan base.
  • In other transfer news, UNC is also in contact with former South Carolina freshman Anthony Gill who is leaving Columbia after the firing of Darrin Horn and hiring of Kansas State’s Frank Martin(not sure that I blame him.) Gill is originally from Charlotte, is 6-8, 235 lbs and averaged 7.6 ppg and 4.6 rpg in 25 minutes last season for the Gamecocks. Besides UNC, Gill has received interest from Virginia, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, Clemson and Ohio State. Gill would be available to play in the 2013-14 season and if anything gets full points for this quote.

“The only think I can do is speculate,” Lewis said. “I just think he’s going to be wide open in the process. Everybody’s speculating Virginia, but (North) Carolina is interested in him. It’d be hard to not look at [UNC] real serious, too. (North) Carolina is still Carolina. Y’all think you’re Carolina, but UNC is still UNC.”

  • Kendall Marshall and Tyler Zeller have both chosen agents. Marshall went with Virginia-based Octagon previously known to UNC fans as the agency that hired Joe Forte’s mother. Zeller went with Jeff Schwartz of Excel Sports Management who also represents his brother Luke Zeller as well as fellow Tar Heels Jerry Stackhouse and Tyler Hansbrough.
  • Speaking of Zeller, a couple of more videos for you. The first one, seen below, is Zeller talking to Doug Gottlieb on camera after his appearances on ESPN outlets earlier in the week. Stick around to the end when Gottlieb asks him if he would want to be drafted by the Pacers and go against Hansbrough in practice. The second, if you are so inclined, Zeller discussing the role of his faith during his time at UNC.
