Game Recap

Liberty 86 Virginia 82

Enhanced Live Box Score

Really?  Liberty?  Sure Virginia is down this year, but a loss to Liberty at home is not acceptable, and Sammy Zeglinksi agrees...

"It's depressing," Zeglinski said. "We came out flat in the first half, just like we did the first two games. It's not acceptable. We needed to be more aggressive and that started with me."

You know Stephen Curry, but have you met Seth Curry, who hit the game-winning shot for Liberty and finished with 26 points?

"That's always big, playing a team in a bigger conference and showing you can play with anyone. You definitely come out and try to prove people wrong because they didn't recruit you," said Seth Curry

How could so many teams miss on a Curry boy twice?

Factor of the Game

Tempo, Tempo, Tempo.  I've been waiting for a game when Tempo was a factor.  In this one, in the cases where Virginia's tempo takes an upward trend they also make a run.  It's obvious this game was a battle of tempos, with Liberty's slower paced game winning out at the end.

NC State 74 Winthrop 48

Enhanced Live Box Score

NC State easily disposed of Winthrop as Ben McCauley finished with a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds.

NC State was successful by getting to the free throw line, finishing 22-27 at the line.

Georgia Tech 74 Arkansas Pine-Bluff 47

Box Score

Alade Aminu finished with 19 points and 7 rebounds and Gani Lawal finished with 17 points and 13 rebounds in Tech's 27 point win over Arkansas Pine-Bluff.

The bigger story is that Georgia Tech played without their guard Maurice Miller who sustained a concussion in the Mercer win over the past weekend.

Iman Shumpert played point guard in the win, while Lance Storrs got his first career start.  Those two were the only scholarship guards available to Paul Hewitt in the game.

Clemson 81 Savannah State 49

North Carolina 98 Oregon 69

Box Score

Danny Green led UNC with 21 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists in the win that propels UNC to the finals of the Maui Invitational.  Tyler Hansbrough made an appearance in the win, scoring 16 points (including 12-14 from the free throw line) in 19 minutes.

The Heels were never challenged, and probably the most significant thing to the rest of the ACC is that their defense was very good.  UNC appeared to be all over the court, trapping in the backcourt and swarming on help in halfcourt defense.

UNC moves on to play #5 Notre Dame in the finals of the Maui Invitational which will matchup Luke Harangody with Tyler Hansbrough.
