Boston College athletic director Gene DeFilippo announced today that he will retire effective September 30th.

He was crucial in bringing the Eagles into the ACC back in 2005, executing a rather brilliant political situation and exiting the Big East to join the much stronger ACC. However he came under fire the previous season for comments he made about ESPN and conference realignment, his relationship with Coach Frank Spaziani and critical comments he made about the BC fanbase.
The general reaction among Boston College fans is one of excitement, largely due to the dominoes that will follow after the retirement. Here is one tweet that explains the excitement...
