It was just a so-so season for Mark Turgeon. Other than beating Notre Dame, there wasn't really a big win. The Terps finished 17-15, and 6-10 in the ACC. The Terps only won one true road game all season (at Clemson). The offseason has provided more turmoil, as top scorer Terrell Stoglin and Mychal Parker were suspended for the season, but ultimately left the school. Stoglin declared for the NBA Draft, and Parker is transferring.
The Terps were 317th in the nation in assists per game. Some of that you can blame on Stoglin, as he took over 300 more shots than anybody on the team. He made 120 more shots than anyone else too. His 220 makes were just 39 shots less than what Sean Mosley attempted. The team shot under 34% from three point range.
Who stood out: Stoglin led the ACC in scoring, but he only shot 41% from the field, down from 46% his freshman season. He scored 690 points, which more than doubled the second leading scorer in terms of total points.
Looking ahead: Stoglin will be a big loss, but he isn't the only loss of consequence. Sean Mosley's departure is big too, as he was the second leading scorer on the team.
Early Prediction: Even with Stoglin gone, there is some optimism. Nick Faust showed a lot of promise in his freshman season, but he will need to improve on his shooting percentage. Alex Len also showed some promise, but needs to stay out of foul trouble. The incoming freshman class is six deep, and with four frontcourt guys coming in, will be very good and deep in a year or two. But the backcourt is going to need some work, and could be an issue this season. I could see them being a team that finishes in the middle of the pack in the ACC this season.
