Today's schedule sees three conference games and Duke hosting St. John's in a non-conference matchup. The Blue Devils are favored at home vs St. John's, but the Johnnies are coming off a big win against West Virginia. That game tips off at noon.
In ACC play, Clemson hosts Wake Forest at noon and Ty Walker is a game-time decision coming off a concussion suffered in the FSU game this week. At 2:30, Virginia Tech plays at Maryland in a game I expect to be a good one. Then, at 8 tonight we get the big matchup of the day as NC State hosts Virginia.
Both NC State and Virginia are coming off games on Thursday night, so fatigue and depth could be a factor. NC State is hoping to bounce back after the debacle that had Scott Wood asking a reporter, "has your wife ever cheated on you?" Wood was asked how he was feeling after the blowout loss to UNC, and his reponse has made him a lock on the ACC's All-Interview team. Needless to say, NC State is hoping to forget that game and move on. Virginia will present different problems for NC State, but the good news is without Assane Sene, the Wolfpack shouldn't have to deal with length around the rim like they did versus John Henson and UNC.
Mike Scott will be a difficult matchup for NC State, as he is for most teams. Richard Howell would seem to be the better matchup, but you can't afford to see Howell get in foul trouble again.
NC State is still looking for a good win for their NCAA Tourney resume and this is as good of a shot as the Pack will get. They need to win this game.
