We've all known that Marshall Plumlee was likely to redshirt, and I've suspected since the concussion injury that Murphy suffered that he might as well.  Today, we get some confirmation on both.

The citizen times ran a story on Plumlee, saying that Duke plans to redshirt the youngest Plumlee.  The quotes from the Plumlees' high school coach tell us it was no surprise to the family:

“I think the decision was made just prior to the start of the season,” said David Gaines, the Christ School basketball coach who had Miles (a 6-10 senior), Mason (6-10 junior) and Marshall on his teams at the private school in Arden.“I talked to (Duke assistant coach Chris Collins) and he said Coach K had talked to Marshall and his parents and everyone was on board with the idea,” said Gaines.

The news on Alex Murphy comes from Jeff Goodman of CBS on Twitter:

According to @dukehoopblog, Goodman is friends with the Murphy family so this is a pretty solid source.

The two redshirts from Duke is not a common occurrence for the Blue Devils.  Mike Krzyzewski can do it this year with a deep roster, but the bigger reason is due to a thin incoming class next season.  Duke has only one commitment for the class of 2012 in Rasheed Sulaimon.
