Game Recap

FSU posted an impressive defensive performance and Wake Forest received a scare on Wednesday.

Tomahawk Nation recaps about FSU's 80-38 win (Box Score):

Last year, the Seminoles beat the Hatters by two points on a game that ended by Ryan Reid taking a charge as time expired. Tonight, the Seminoles put on an impressive showing, holding the Hatters to only 10 points in the first half. The score differential could have been larger if the Seminoles didn't have some lapses in concentration and try some unnecessary highlight tape plays late in the game.

The Hatters struggled, shooting only 27.5% for the game. In the first half they shot less than 20%. The Hatters put 28 points on the board in the second half as they started to hit 3-pointers. The Seminoles played outstanding defense during this game. The recorded 10 blocks and caused havoc on the Hatters shooters as they entered the paint. The Seminoles created 11 recorded steals. Despite the effort on the defensive end, the Hatters only went to the free throw line nine times. The Seminoles also recorded 48 rebounds, 18 offensive rebounds. With an Oreb% of a 58%.

For Wake Forest, it doesn't matter who you play if you turn the ball over and allow 3 point shooters to take open shots you can lose.  That's exactly what happened in the 1st half last night.  Dino Gaudio made some adjustments at half as JournalNow.com reports (Enhanced Box Score):

But the Deacons broke the game open with their defense, holding the Panthers to just seven points over the first 14 minutes of the second half. After shooting 44 percent in the first half, High Point made only six second-half field goals on 25 tries for 24 percent.

Wake Forest improved to 3-0. High Point fell to 1-1.

"Good teams are able to make adjustments," Coach Dino Gaudio of Wake Forest said. "In the first half they were dribble-driving and kicking out for threes, so we had to make a little adjustment at halftime where we said ‘Listen, let's just lock on to the driver and let's stay attached to their wings so they can't drive and kick.'
