UPDATE: Per UNC, the game has been rescheduled for February 20th. The game time and TV coverage has yet to be determined.

After hours of watching the roads in the area deteriorate, the UNC-Duke game scheduled for 9:10 PM tonight has been postponed.

Here is the official release from UNC:

Tonight’s men’s basketball game between the University of North Carolina and Duke University has been postponed due to inclement weather.

A makeup date has not been announced at this time. The game will NOT be played tomorrow, February 13th, due to the conditions.

“Duke’s bus is not able to get to their campus to pick up the team in time to be able to make the trip to Chapel Hill so we can’t play this evening.” Says UNC Director of Athletics Bubba Cunningham. “The safety of the teams and officials is the number one priority and this was the best decision to make at this time. Coach Williams, Coach Krzyzewski, (Duke AD) Kevin White and I will be on the phone with the ACC and make a decision as to when to play the game as soon as possible.”

More information to follow as it is available.

At noon snow started falling in the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area and quickly covered the roads. Speaking from personal experience I was out and in a matter of 20-30 minutes the roads went from clear to dangerous. While UNC had the team at the Dean Dome, game officials and enough operations staff Duke had not departed from Durham and did not plan to do so until 6:00 PM.

As the afternoon went on it became clear the road conditions would keep anyone from reaching the game unless they had a dog sled or walked. UNC announced that any student who could reach the Dean Dome would be allowed to fill any empty seats setting up for the possibility of an epic atmosphere. Alas it wasn't meant to be as the decision was ultimately made to not play the game tonight due to Duke's difficult reaching the Dean Dome.

No word yet when a makeup will be scheduled.
