It was another quiet night in the ACC on Wednesday, but non-conference play jumps back into action tonight as the ACC has seven games. Clemson looks to stay undefeated tonight against Georgia, who has played 2 ACC opponents already this season.
On December 2nd, Wake Forest lost at home 87-86 to Georgia, while Georgia Tech beat the Bulldogs 78-69 on December 22nd. Clemson looks to beat the Bulldogs tonight and retain their top 25 ranking, which is the first they have had since 1999.
With such a quiet night in the ACC, let's look a little closer at efficiency ratings. As noted in our Stats Glossary, offensive efficiency is the number of points scored per 100 possessions and defensive efficiency is the number of points allowed per 100 possessions, and you can see which teams have the best offensive and defensive efficiencies on our Team Stats page.
Instead of looking at the top team ratings, let's look on a game-by-game basis, and see what the most efficient offensive and defensive performances have been on the season.
Here are the top 5 offensive performances by ACC teams:
|
ACC Team |
Opponent |
Offensive Efficiency |
| Maryland | UMKC |
144.29 |
| Clemson | Western Carolina |
143.05 |
| UNC | High Point |
138.23 |
| Miami | Georgia Tech |
136.36 |
| UNC | FAU |
136.36 |
As you can see, Miami had it's top performance of the season against Georgia Tech in their conference opener.
Here are the top 5 defensive performances by ACC teams:
|
ACC Team |
Opponent |
Defensive Efficiency |
| Virginia Tech | Appalachian State |
56.92 |
| UNC | Gardner-Webb |
60.24 |
| Clemson | Arkansas State |
61.11 |
| Virginia Tech | West Florida |
63.51 |
| Virginia Tech | Coppin State |
66.15 |
Despite leading in defensive efficiency, Duke doesn't show up in the top 5 defensive performances of the season. The Blue Devils do show in the 7th, 8th, 9th, and 11th spots on the list. On the other hand, Virginia Tech is 4th in defensive efficiency, but shows 3 times on the list, leading me to believe the Hokies haven't been nearly as consistent, defensively.
