Like Matt Daniels did last year, redshirt senior quarterback Sean Renfree will take part in the East-West Shrine Game, according to the game’s Facebook account. The game will take place on Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida on January 19th and will be broadcast on the NFL Network.

Renfree played a big part in the revival of the Duke Football program over the last four years and to see his hard work pay off not only in team accomplishments, but also individual, is great to see. The signal caller’s name dots the Duke record book for quarterbacks, but for one reason or another he has not garnered much national attention.

Earlier this month he did receive the Pop Warner College Football Award, which recognizes a Pop Warner alumnus who has made a difference on the field, in the classroom and in his community. Renfree was also chosen as the Jim Tatum Award winner in November, given annually in memory of the late Jim Tatum to the top senior student-athlete among the league’s football players.

From that article:

Renfree graduated from Duke in December of 2011 with a degree in public policy with a 3.4 grade point average and is now working on a graduate degree in humanities with a 3.8 GPA. He was named to the All-ACC Academic Team in 2010 and 2011.

“What Sean Renfree has accomplished in his time at Duke University – athletically, academically and in our community – is simply incredible,” said  Duke head coach David Cutcliffe.  “He comes from an outstanding family that taught him the strongest of core values, and, as I’ve said before, there are not enough Sean Renfrees in our world today.  As a two-year team captain, his commitment to excellence has elevated our team and our program, and we could not be more proud of him in receiving the prestigious Jim Tatum Award.”

By all accounts, Sean is an outstanding representative of Duke University and his hard work on and off the football field are bringing him long overdue recognition. Coach David Cutcliffe and Offensive Coordinator Kurt Roper maintain that Renfree will play in the National Football League due to contact they have received from league representatives.

NFLDraftScout.com has Renfree rated as the #11 QB
