The All-ACC teams were announced on Monday with a total of nine Tar Heels named to the All-ACC teams including four on the first team.
Giovani Bernard earned the distinction of being named First Team All-ACC at two positions. Bernard was named to the first team as a running back and specialist. The redshirt sophomore finished the season with 1228 yards rushing or 122.8 ypg. That average was 38 ypg better than the next best running back, Clemson's Andre Ellington. Despite his total dominance at the position, Bernard was not a unanimous making first team on 45 of 46 ballots. Bernard also led the league in all-purpose yards with 198.1 ypg, returned two punts for a touchdown and averaged 16.4 yards per return to solidify his selection as first team specialist.
Jonathan Cooper joined Bernard on the first team offense. In addition to first team honors, Cooper received the Jacobs Blocking Trophy given the the ACC's most outstanding blocker as voted on by the league's coaches. And despite this award, Cooper was also not a unanimous selection.
On the defensive side, Sylvester Williams and Kevin Reddick both were named to the first team rounding out the Tar Heel selections. While the UNC secondary had plenty of issues, Reddick and Williams did their best to shore up the defense. Williams, in particular, was dominant against in the Thursday night win over Virginia.
UNC placed five players on the second team. OT James Hurst, TE Eric Ebron and K Casey Barth were named to the second team offense with DE Kareem Martin and P Tommy Hibbard getting the nod for the second team defense.
OG Travis Bond, S Tre Boston, QB Bryn Renner, CB Tim Scott and OT Brennan Williams were honorable mention.
