Game Recap

The Duke Blue Devils kept their impressive streak of in-season tournament win alive as they took care of Minnesota, 89-71 behind 20 points and 17 rebounds from Mason Plumlee.

Mason Plumlee posted another solid performance in Duke’s victory over Minnesota in the first round of the Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament.

Not to be out done was the performance of Seth Curry who scored 25 points on 8 of 11 shooting including 3-3 behind the three point line. The Blue Devil’s entire starting line up scored in double figures including 17 from from point guard Quinn Cook, 14 points from Ryan Kelly and 11 points from Rasheed Sualimon.

Duke used hot shooting all game to keep the Golden Gophers at bay. The Blue Devils shot 54.5 percent from the floor including 80 percent from behind the three point arch.

If there are any concerns from the game it would  be that Duke only got two points from their bench and the speculation surrounding Alex Murphy has to be gaining more momentum. Murphy only played one minute in the game further adding to the mystery as to why he went from starting to essentially not playing at all.

The two points came from freshman Amile Jefferson who continues to show flashes of solid play on both ends of the court. Tyler Thornton was the top player in terms of minutes playing 22 minutes. Another area of concern has to be the fact that Duke had only 12 assists to 14 turnovers, an area that will need to improve as the competition in the tournament gets tougher.

Still the Blue Devils advance to the next round of the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament where they will play the winner of the Virginia Commonwealth and Memphis game.

The win is Duke’s 22nd straight victory in an in-season tournaments. Stay tuned for more coverage of the Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament. The Blue Devils next game will be Friday int he semifinals. That game will tip off at 7 p.m.
