UNC has announced several changes to future football schedules, including the 2013 slate.

North Carolina and East Carolina have reached an agreement to move next year's game to Chapel Hill. As a result, the 2014 contest and the 2016 or 2018 game will be played in Greenville.

North Carolina and Minnesota also have cancelled their home-and-home series, scheduled for 2013 and 2014.

"We're disappointed we will not have the opportunity to play Minnesota," said Cunningham. "Recently, Minnesota expressed an interest in cancelling the series and we agreed to do so based on the terms of the contract."

Minnesota has agreed to pay North Carolina the buyout fee of $800,000.

North Carolina will open the 2013 season at South Carolina on Thursday, Aug. 29, and the Tar Heels have reached an agreement to play Old Dominion on Oct. 12.

Minnesota joins Tennessee as the latest team to bail on a series with the Tar Heels. This creates a hole in the 2013 schedule UNC will need to fill and that might prove difficult. UNC already has an FCS school on the schedule in Old Dominion plus games against South Carolina and East Carolina. Finding another quality opponent or at least one from a BCS conference will not be easy. That likely means another FCS school(which makes bowl eligibility tougher) or a lightweight like Idaho.
