The ACC moved to 10-0 on the season on Saturday when Miami and Wake Forest won their season openers and Clemson moved to 2-0.
Wake Forest opened the season with a 91-82 win over James Madison. Kyle Visser led the way with 23 pts on 10-10 shooting from the floor and also grabbed 9 rebounds. Harvey Hale (19 pts), Ish Smith (12 pts, 11 asts, 5 rebs), and LD Williams (11 pts) also scored in double-figures for the Demon Deacons. According to Skip Prosser the Wake Forest defense needs improvement, "The biggest disappointment to us was that they shot the ball so well. We guarded them in the second half better than we did in the first. For young guys, defense is usually what comes last, it takes repetitions."
In their 2nd game in 2 days, Clemson defeated Monmouth 77-65. James Mays finished with 18 pts, all in the 2nd half, and added 9 rebs, 5 stls, and 4 asts. Cliff Hammonds (12 pts, 5 rebs, 5 asts), Trevor Booker (12 pts), Vernon Hamilton (10 pts, 4 rebs, 4 asts, 3 stls), and KC Rivers (10 pts, 4 asts) rounded out the Tigers in double-figures. The game was closer than the final score appeared, as the game had 11 lead changes and 4 ties.
In the final game of the day, Miami opened up their season with a 73-50 win over Florida International. The Hurricanes were playing without Denis Clemente and Raymond Hicks who were suspended for the season opener due to violating team rules. Anthony King led the way for the Canes with 19 pts and grabbed 15 rebounds and also led the way defensively with 4 blks. Jack McClinton, a transfer from Siena, made his Miami debut, scoring 14 pts, while Jimmy Graham (10 pts) and freshman, Dwayne Collins (10 pts, 12 rebs) scored in double-figures as well.
