Maryland added controversial Xavier transfer, Dez Wells, as Wells announced Maryland would be his next school choosing the Terps over Kentucky, Memphis, and Oregon. Maryland will file a waiver in an attempt to allow Wells to play without sitting out one year as transfer rules normally require.  Wells' case for a waiver is an interesting one, largely due to criminal charges that led to his exit from Xavier.

Wells brings with him a controversial background that includes charges of rape that got him expelled from Xavier.  Last week, the Hamilton county grand jury declined to indict Wells on the charges, but Xavier still wouldn't let Wells return to school.  Wells has since packed a summer's worth of college visits into a week and selected Maryland on Tuesday.

Wells averaged nearly 10 points and 5 rebounds in 26 minutes per game for Xavier in his freshman season.

Scouting Report from Scout.com

Attacking style small forward comes from athletic family. Mom was an all-american at St. Augustine's. Known as a slasher, dunker, finisher. Needs to tighten up handle and perimeter stroke. Potential high-major prospect.
