Boston College beat St. Francis Xavier 111-65 on Sunday. The Eagles were led by 22 pts from Sean Marshall and 20 pts, 8 rebs, 5 asts, and 5 tos from freshman, Shamari Spears. Four others finished in double-figures, including preseason All-American, Jared Dudley (16 pts, 9 rebs, 6 asts) and Tyrese Rice (10 pts, 9 asts, 0 turnovers). BC shot 62.3% from the field, 55% from behind the arc, and 92% from the free throw line in the rout.
In Coral Gables, FL, Miami rolled over Northwood 94-54 on Monday. Jimmy Graham led the Hurrianes with 14 pts in 16 minutes, while Anthony King added 10 pts, 6 rebs. Transfer, Jack McLinton added 13 pts, while freshman James Dews added 10 pts, including 3-5 from behind the arc.
On Tuesday, Florida St beat NOVA Southeastern 96-66. Al Thornton led FSU in scoring with 17 pts, and Jason Rich added 16 pts. Sophomore forward, Casaan Breedan added 13 pts, while transfer Toney Douglas added 13 pts, 6 asts, and more importantly zero turnovers. Critics have said that Douglas isn't a point guard, but Douglas is hoping to prove them wrong this season.
Wake Forest struggled to beat NC Central 68-60 on Tuesday night. It took a 3 pointer by Anthony Gurley in the last couple minutes to give Wake a 6 point lead, before Wake could relax in the exhibition win. Wake had 10 players score between 4 and 11 points. The biggest concern for Wake and Skip Prosser is taking care of the ball, where the Demon Deacons totaled 19 turnovers against just 14 assists.
NC State beat St. Augustine's on Tuesday 87-76 in their final exhibition. For the second straight game, Gavin Grant dominated, scoring 24 pts and adding 7 rebounds, 8 assists, and 3 blocks. Grant hit 5-7 FGs, 3-4 3PTs, and 11-14 from the charity stripe. After struggling in State's first exhibition, Courtney Fells bounced back to score 17 pts on 7-9 shooting.
