Duke Target Jabari Parker Set to Trim the Fat

Adam Zagoria of Zagsblog is reporting that one of Duke's top targets for the Class of 2013 is set to cut his list of schools down by November.  Parker is a 6-foot-8 forward from Chicago's Simeon High School, and is the top prospect in the recruiting class according to essentially every recruiting service out there.

It isn't shocking to hear that Duke is still expected to be in the mix as the Blue Devils certainly have all the elements that Parker and his family appear to be looking in a school namely a mix of academics and national prominence.

Parker has had a lot of time to think as he has been recovering from a fractured foot and has not been participating in the normal AAU circuit. During his down time another top Duke target, Julius Randle has been garnering a lot of steam and in some minds may overtake Parker as the top player in the class.

Still Parker is an immense talent and regardless whether he is ranked No. 1 or No. 2 in a recruiting class he is considered a top target by essentially all of the top programs in the country.

Parker is considering 10 schools at the moment including: Duke, North Carolina, BYU, Depaul, Florida, Kentucky, Michigan State and Stanford.

Many are expecting Parker to end up being at least a one and done prospect though neither he, nor his father have ruled the idea of playing more than one year in college. Parker and his family also have to make the decision regarding the possibility of him taking a one year Mormon mission.

So, far no decision has been made regarding that, though that possibility leaves a lot of speculation about what that means for the duration of his college career.

Parker has been called the best high school player since Lebron James and was featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated back in May. His game has drawn a lot of comparisons to Kobe Bryant.

Perhaps an advantage for Duke and coach Mike Krzyzewski is that he coached both of those guys on the Olympic Team and, Krzyzewski has certainly received a post Olympic popularity bump among top recruits. All of those recruits, Parker included, got to see see the best players in the world shower the Duke coach with praise and in the case of Lebron James, a bottle of water.

In the mean time it is a period of waiting for Parker, waiting to narrow his list which his dad says he will do in November and waiting to get back on the court once he has recovered.
