Just got the report confirmed that Wake Forest tight end/H-back Neil Basford tore his achilles tendon yesterday at the end of practice and will likely miss the rest of the season.
The 6-5, 250 lb Basford was likely to contribute to the Deacs as the starting tight end and H-Back this year and is a blow to him because he was going to see his first action in college for Wake Forest.
As for the Deacs big picture, this thrusts RS Junior Spencer Bishop into the starting TE spot.
It also looks like the fullbacks and tight ends have been consolidated into one group (H-Back), and Tommy Bohanon is likely #1 on that depth chart. That would mesh with what I've seen in terms of Bohanon getting out into the slot a little bit (a la Mike Renfrette), and also blocking on the TE some.
We wish nothing but the best in recovery to Neil and hope that he comes back strong next year to contribute to the Wake Forest football team.
