Duke played an exhibition last night and efficiently beat Shaw 96-45. For the second straight match a freshman led the Blue Devils in scoring, but this time it was freshman combo guard, Jon Scheyer who finished with 19 pts and 4 asts. Scheyer was 7-10 from the field and 3-6 from behind the arc, a place Duke will sorely need Scheyer to contribute. Preseason All-American, Josh McRoberts, once again had an all around game with 11 pts, 8 rebs, 6 asts, and 4 stls in 25 minutes, often bringing the ball up the floor and making some dazzling passes.
The Blue Devils shot 56.5% from the field, while only making 10-18 from the free throw line. Three point shooting is a noted weakness of the Blue Devils this season, although they shot reasonably well against Shaw, shooting 32% (8-25).
McRoberts and Scheyer joined Demarcus Nelson (13 pts, 3 stls), Gerald Henderson (9 pts), and Lance Thomas (12 pts, 5 rebs) in the starting lineup, while Blue/White star, Brian Zoubek came off the bench to score 9 pts and add a team high 11 rebs. Also off the bench, Martynas Pocius scored 12 pts and dished out 6 asts.
