Have you heard of the the NOAH System (PDF)? Alternatively, you could visit NoahBasketball.com, which is the the company's website. This system is designed to help improve shooting techniques, by analyzing the arc of a shot and optimizing it for a given player. Some of the anaylsis in the PDF is fantastic, although I'm still not exactly sure how you can teach the proper shooting arc.
You might ask, why is this relevant? The reason is, one ACC school has purchased this system to help with shooting from the free throw line. I had never heard of the NOAH System until checking out Seth Greenberg's blog, where Greenberg said that Virginia Tech purchased this system to help with free throw shooting.
Whether related or not, early word from Hokie' camp is that one Virginia Tech player has a much improved shot. That player is guard/forward Deron Washington who shot just 27% (7-26) last season from behind the arc. In a preseason scrimmage against South Carolina, Washington made 5 of 6 from three point range. Is this all just a coincidence? Who knows, but if the Hokies see their free throw shooting jump dramatically this season, they may be setting the new trend in college basketball.
