Incoming freshman Corey Heyward will start his college career with a medical redshirt after tearing his ACL on Thursday in a pickup game. Here's more from Georgia Tech's official website.
Heyward, who spent the 2011-12 academic year at Hargrave Military Academy in Virginia, suffered the injury in a pickup game Thursday. He will undergo surgery within the next two weeks, followed by a lengthy rehabilitation period. Heyward enrolled for the early summer term at Tech in late May and has been participating in strength and conditioning workouts and individual instruction.
"In the short time that Corey has been a member of our team, he has made a positive impact on our program," said Gregory, entering his second season as the Yellow Jackets' head coach. "His work ethic has produced positive results both in the classroom and on the court. We feel terrible about his injury, but it's a temporary setback and we'll be with him every step of the way back."
Boston College Hoops adds a Harvard transfer
Boston College added Harvard transfer 6-11 Andrew Van Nest to their roster for the 2012-13 season. Van Nest graduated and had one year of eligibility left so he will be eligible next season. Its unlikely Van Nest will make a huge contribution with the trio of Ryan Anderson, Dennis Clifford, and KC Caudill returning, but Van Nest will provide experience and size to challenge the rising sophomores in practice.
Wake Forest gets unexpected help on the offensive line
First year Wake Forest offensive line coach Jonathan Himebauch will get an unexpected player added to his arsenal soon.
According to a source close to the team, offensive lineman Steven Chase will return to the Demon Deacons football team for the 2012 season after being dismissed for breaking an unspecified university policy.
Despite head coach Jim Grobe stating on March 25 in a Dan Collins article that he "doesn't expect Chase to return," it appears that something might have changed his mind.
That something might have been the lack of returning experience on the offensive line. Chase started three games last year and will seemingly be a starter at one of the tackle spots and this will certainly bolster the line for next year and beyond if he can stay out of trouble. This bodes well for a Wake Forest team that will be looking to get its ground game back on track, as running back Josh Harris hopes to regain his freshman form after an injury-filled sophomore season.
Virginia adds a point guard
In somewhat of a surprise to Tony Bennett, the Cavaliers added an elite prospect, point guard Devon Hall. Devon's older brother, Mark, plays for Virginia's football team. Hall is a 6-5 point guard who was ranked #38 by Rivals in the class of the 2014. Hall has decided to re-classify back to his original class and will be eligible for the 2013-14 season.
