Duke Football Picks Up a Couple Commitments

In the wake of what was reported to be a very successful football camp at Duke this past weekend, the Blue Devils landed a couple of commitments out of the event.  Recruitment for the class of 2013 and if some of the Twitter talk about the Blue Devils football camp is any indication a lot of those in attendance left impressed.  Two evidently liked Duke enough to sign up to join the program. The two commitments included Johnell Barnes and Zavier Carmichael.

Barnes is a 6-foot 160 pound wide receiver from Fort Myers, Florida. A 3-star recruit, Barnes had 11 other scholarship offers including Florida Atlantic, Duke's first opponent in the upcoming 2012 season.

Barnes continues the growing pipeline of Florida football players at Duke that includes a couple of pretty skilled receivers including former Blue Devil Donovan Varner and currently top receiver Conner Vernon.

The Blue Devils also got a solid verbal commitment from Carmichael a 5-foot-11, 200 pound linebacker from Mobile, Alabama. Carmichael is a member of the class of 2014 but was apparently impressed enough with what he saw at Duke's camp to go ahead and sign up.

He is currently not rated according to rivals but still has plenty of time to develop his game for the next level.

Duke already has seven commitments for the class of 2013 that includes four defensive backs, an offensive lineman, a wide receiver and an athlete. So far, the Blue Devils highest rated prospects are all three stars but as rising seniors they still have a year of high school to continue their development.

The fact that Duke is landing commitments is nothing shocking, many programs can sway recruits during camps, but the Blue Devils have extra ammunition with the improved facilities including the indoor practice facility that opened last August.
