I had some high expectations for Miami going in to the season, but they weren't quite met. Some could be due to attrition (only Trey McKinney-Jones played in every game), and some of it was due to poor play. But While the Hurricanes did finish 20-13, I thought they would have a better record. They did get to the second round of the NIT, losing to Minnesota in a game that they really didn't look like they tried all that hard in.
Who Stood Out: The guy that I really liked to watch was Kenny Kadji. Having a 6-11 guy who can shoot threes is a nice weapon to have. Kadji shot 49% from the field, and 43% from three, averaged over five rebounds per game, and lead the team with 1.6 blocks per game. The only issues was he was a 63% free throw shooter.
Looking Ahead:Malcolm Grant and DeQuan Jones are gone, but the bulk of the team is back. Having a healthy Reggie Johnson will be big too (Johnson missed 10 games). Melvin Johnson, a highly touted recruit from New York, will be in next year, and could see some time in the backcourt.
Early Prediction: There's a lot to like here. There's a lot of depth on this team, and hopefully will be a team at full strength for next season. And a second year under Jim Larranaga will be nice too. They may not be a team that's favored to win the ACC, but if you're looking for a sleeper team, this is the one.
