Tyler Zeller is obviously deserving of every accolade UNC can heap on him at this point. He leaves UNC as a 2nd team All-American, ACC Player of the Year, All-ACC 1st team, Academic All-American twice, Academic All-American of the Year and now team co-MVP and named top defender on the team along with John Henson. That last one will come as a shock to some but Zeller’s stop percentages were tops on the team on a regular basis. The only shame is Zeller didn’t get one more shot to play in the Final Four, this time as the team’s best player. Still, he got a ring as a freshman.
Kendall Marshall being named co-MVP alongside Zeller makes perfect sense and anyone who disagrees please go back and watch the Kansas and Ohio games again. Besides sharing the award for top defender, Henson was the team’s top rebounder. James Michael McAdoo was recognized as most improved after going from being out of sync to leading the team in scoring in the NCAA regional final game versus Kansas.
