Apparently, Michigan sophomore starting forward Evan Smotrycz is fed up with UM that he wants to transfer to UM. Smotrycz (no idea how to pronounce his name) helped lead Michigan to the NCAA Tournament this year. He averaged 7.7ppg, shot 43% 3PT and nabbed 4.9rpg. He's narrowed his choices to Maryland, Providence, and Colorado.
At 6'9", Smotrycz will join a crowded frontcourt. He seems to be a Jake Layman type player because he can knock down the three. With Mychal Parker leaving, the Terps have the open scholarship, but I would think the Smotrycz would need to sit out a year in order to be eligible.
I saw a handful of Michigan games this year and I can't say that Smotrycz is an elite player that plugs an immediate hole for the Terps. He's a nice chess piece, but may be a bit redundant once Layman emerges.
I guess if Turgeon wants him then he can help us. We'll find out soon.
