Thoughts/Predictions for the Weekend

We go into the final weekend of the ACC season, so here is the schedule, a few thoughts on each game, and the final predictions of the season.  While I didn't approach my 76% mark of last season, this season I've been right 58% of the time on my predictions.  On to the games:

Saturday

  • Virginia Tech at Boston College Noon RJ - Boston College looks to grab the #2 seed in the ACC tournament with a home win over Virginia Tech (and a UNC loss to Duke).  The Hokies are a dangerous team right now as they are finally healthy, so don't be surprised if they play with the Eagles for 35 minutes.
  • Georgia Tech at Clemson 2 PM RJ - Both teams are ready to put a tough season behind them, but senior day for Tigers should give them some added motivation.
  • NC State at Wake Forest 4 PM CBS - NC State really needs to bounce back with a win to in the conference season, while Eric Williams and Justin Gray will be playing their last regular season game in Lawrence Joel Coliseum (although they could play there in the NIT).  The Wolfpack need to get the ball to Cedric Simmons early and often and hope to get Eric Williams in foul trouble.
  • UNC at Duke 9 PM ESPN - Duke hopes to bounce back from their loss at FSU with a win at home on senior day against the Tarheels.  A UNC win will clinch a #2 seed in the ACC tournament, and a wonderful conference season.  Roy Williams will have to find a way to keep JJ Redick down, as he scored 35 pts in the first matchup.  More importantly, watch the big men, Tyler Hansbrough and Shelden Williams and their impact in this one.

Sunday

  • FSU at Miami 1 PM RJ - Florida State could finish 9-7 in the conference with a win at Miami and virtually clinch a spot in the NCAA tournament, while Miami is still holding on to hope that they could make a run in the ACC tournament to claim a bid as well.  This game went to OT in their first matchup, and a close game can be expected once again.
  • Maryland at Virginia 3:30 PM FSN - Both teams will have a 6 to 8 seed in the ACC tournament, but would much prefer to play BC or UNC by being a 6 or 7 seed as opposed to having to play Duke as the 8 seed.  So, the importance of this game can have an impact on the chances of these two teams making a run in the ACC tournament.

Predictions

Boston College over Virginia Tech by 12
Clemson over Georgia Tech by 5
NC State over Wake Forest by 7
Duke over UNC by 1
FSU over Miami by 2
Virginia over Maryland by 2
