Duke/North Carolina Box Score
Notes: As the Webmaster predicted yesterday, Duke beat UNC by 4 at the Dean Dome 87-83, behind 35 points from JJ Redick. The Blue Devils had control of the game for most of the first half behind a strong early performance from Josh McRoberts, who finished with 17 pts and 5 rebs and one spectacular reverse alley-oop dunk. Early in the 2nd half, Duke jumped to a 17 point lead a number of turnovers from the Tarheels.
At that point, Roy Williams went to the Blue Team and pulled his 5 starters. While the ploy is meant ignite fans and bring energy, the Blue Team actually went on a 6-0 run behind 4 points from Quentin Thomas. Once Williams brought his starters back in the momentum had shifted and the Heels came all the way back to make it a game once again.
In the final minutes, JJ Redick took the game over hitting two big 3's and the Blue Devils iced the win with free throws late. Redick led the way for Duke with 35 pts, while 3 other players were in double figures, Shelden Williams (13 pts, 9 rebs, 4 stls, 4 blks), McRoberts (17 pts, 5 rebs), and Sean Dockery (14 pts).
For Heels, Reyshawn Terry led the way with 17 pts and 5 rebs, while David Noel added 13 pts, 9 rebs, and 5 asts and Tyler Hansbrough had 14 pts and 9 rebs.
