Thoughts/Predictions for the Weekend

There are a couple of non-conference games this weekend in UNC hosting Arizona and Maryland going to Temple.  While both games are critical for the ACC, we'll focus on conference play:

Saturday

  • Virginia Tech at Wake Forest 3 PM RJ - This is the battle of two cellar dwellers in the ACC standings.  Both teams have faced some struggles, Virginia Tech off the court and Wake Forest on the court.  Wake Forest will need stop the Virginia Tech guards while the Hokies will have to find an answer for Eric Williams.
  • Virginia at Duke 7 PM ESPN - Duke hosts the 4-2 Virginia Cavaliers, in what few would have suspected to be a matchup of the top two teams in the conference.  Duke may have a tough time in this game, as Virginia has the ability to do two things that give Duke fits.  Virginia has Sean Singletary who can get into the lane off the dribble and they also are a strong offensive rebounding team.

Sunday

  • NC State at Clemson 1:30 PM RJ - The Wolfpack look to bounce back after a poor loss out of conference on Wednesday, but have to go to Clemson for a tough matchup.  Clemson has been struggling of late as well, but needs to find a way to stop Cedric Simmons.
  • Miami at FSU 4 PM RJ - State rivals, Miami and FSU, both enter this game 3-3 in conference hoping to jump above the .500 mark.  This will be a game of opposite tempos, where Miami would like to have a halfcourt matchup while FSU would like to push tempo more.
  • Georgia Tech at Boston College 5:30 PM FSN - Boston College is coming off an impressive effort while Georgia Tech is on a slide in ACC play.  Georgia Tech will go into a tough environment and will have to take care of the ball better than they have lately to have a chance in this one.

Predictions

Wake Forest over Virginia Tech by 5
Duke over Virginia by 18
NC State over Clemson by 3
Florida State over Miami by 6
Boston College over Georgia Tech by 13
