Will's Week Nine Predictions

Last Week: 5-1 Overall: 46-19

Miami 27, Virginia 17 Except for 2009, Virginia has played Miami well dating back to their first meeting as conference members in 2004. Hopefully Virginia and their fans forget about last week, because that was a clear let down game. I don't think they will be that bad this week. Miami didn't do a lot offensively against Georgia Tech last week, but they were strong defensively, probably feeding off of what Virginia did the prior week. Expect both teams to be better offensively this week, but a stronger passing game from Jacory Harris will seal the win for Miami.

Florida State 34, NC State 17 It seem the Seminoles have gotten back on track after their slow start, and they should have no problem getting by the Wolfpack this week. NC State has been outgained in the last five meetings, despite winning two of those. This year should be the sixth straight year that Florida State outgains NC State. The Wolfpack played pretty sloppily against Virginia last week, but they were the less sloppy team. EJ Manuel should be able to throw with some ease on the NC State defense, and it seems like the running game should be competent enough. NC State should be fine through the air, but I don't think they'll be able to get much done in the running game.

Virginia Tech 38, Duke 10 Over the last seven meetings, Virginia Tech has outscored Duke 257-67. Clearly this has been a one sided matchup. And despite all of the injuries Virginia Tech has suffered, they're still the far more talented team. The Hokies defense has allowed over 300 total yards once in these seven matchups. Offensively, The Hokies have thrown for over 300 yards in four of the last five games. I think Logan Thomas can do that this week. Combine that with another 100 yard rushing game from David Wilson, and this one should be over early.

Maryland 23, Boston College 16 This might be BC's best chance to win the rest of the year. If this were a home game, I would consider picking them. The best question going in to this game is which number will be higher-Luke Kuechly's total tackles or Boston College's point total. Neither team has run the ball effectively in the past couple of matchups, as both are averaging less than 3.0 yards per carry. I think both teams will run the ball well this week, but the passing games won't do much. This should be close throughout.

North Carolina 30, Wake Forest 20 This is the first meeting between the two since 2007. UNC hasn't beaten Wake since 2004. But both of these teams are better now than they were back then. This game will feature two good passing teams, and both teams should do just fine throwing. But the difference will be UNC's running game. Gio Bernard and Ryan Houston should pace a good UNC ground game, which will help UNC prevail.

Clemson 45, Georgia Tech 31 This is a big spotlight game for the ACC. Clemson is undefeated, and Georgia Tech has slid a bit after losing two in a row. Both teams have run the ball well in these matchups, and I think that trend will continue.Georgia Tech has run for over 200 yards in four straight meetings, and I think that will continue as well.  But what will make a difference is Tajh Boyd and Sammy Watkins. They will have monster games, while I think Tevin Washington will struggle to throw when necessary.
