Will's Week Five Predictions

Last week: 4-5  Overall: 27-13

Wake Forest 24, Boston College 17  The Eagles finally got in the win column last week against UMass, but this week's opponent is much tougher. Wake has been good offensively, and improving defensively. And BC's offense has been a bit of a mess. If Duke can go to BC and win, then Wake Forest should be able to. Tanner Price has thrown for 867 yards in three games, and should put up 275 through the air on a rather subpar secondary. If BC runs the ball like they normally do, they should be in this game.

Virginia 37, Idaho 17 The Cavs need a rebound game after losing back to back games to UNC and Southern Miss. It looks like Michael Rocco will be starting, but don't be surprised if you he gets a quick hook if he struggles. Either way, David Watford will see some time in this game. And it wouldn't suprise me if Watford takes over full time if he has a good game. Perry Jones and Kevin Parks will both have good games on a defense that is 102nd in the NCAA in points allowed. Idaho is 1-3, with their lone win coming against FCS North Dakota. They get most of their yards through the air, ranking 63rd passing and 117th rushing. Virginia should have few problems stopping the Vandals.

Maryland 38, Towson 10 Does anyone know if Maryland actually showed up last week against Temple? Did they send a high school team instead? Either way, that was an absolutely brutal loss, one that a lot of people (including me) didn't expect. But they should rebound in a big way this week. Towson is 3-0 in the FCS, but their competition has a combined four wins. This should be one of those game where Danny O'Brien has a monster game through the air, and sits out the fourth quarter.

Georgia Tech 41, NC State 24 The Yellow Jackets showed the offense was very legit last week, and with a banged up and bad defense awaiting them, this looks like a game where they rush for 350 yards. The defense could get beat a little by Mike Glennon, who already is over 1000 yards passing. He will be the reason why NC State will be remotely competitive in this game.

Miami 45, Bethune-Cookman 3 After a tough loss at home to Kansas State, the Canes should be able to rebound against the Wildcats of the FCS, who are 2-1. This looks like one of those games where Lamar Miller could go for over 150 yards rushing, and Jacory Harris has a confidence building type of game passing. The Wildcats shouldn't pose much of a threat here.

Virginia Tech 24, Clemson 20 This is far and away the game of the week in the ACC. The Hokies have been methodical on offense. David Wilson is another in a line of good Hokie running backs, and will run for 100 yards in this game. The defense has been pretty stout, however. That part hasn't changed.  Clemson has gotten better over the last few weeks, coming off of wins over Auburn and Florida State. Tahj Boyd is looking like he could be an upper echelon quarterback in the ACC, and he and Sammy Watkins are becoming one of the best duos in the ACC. But this game is in Blacksburg, and I can't go against the Hokies on their home field.

Florida International 21, Duke 20 The Blue Devils actually have won two in a row, and have a shot at three in a row against the Golden Panthers, who are coming of their first loss of the year, and are playing at home. The name of note offensively is T.Y. Hilton, who is averaging almost 20 yards per catch. FIU is decent defensively, and could limit what Sean Renfree does through the air. This will be a good game.

North Carolina 27, East Carolina 23 Despite not being in the ACC, this will be ECU's second game against an ACC opponent, having lost to Virginia Tech 17-10 three weeks ago. The Pirates have only one win on the season, and other than the Virginia Tech game, haven't been that great on defense. Offensively, the passing game has been pretty good, throwing for nearly 250 yards per game. This should be a game where Gio Bernard runs for 100 yards and at least a touchdown, while Bryn Renner should continue to be a consistent, high percentage passer. UNC should be able to shipwreck the Pirates.
