First and foremost after the Elon game, congratulations to Mike Krzyzewski for tying Dean Smith in the all-times win department. He is now just 23 games behind his mentor Bob Knight. And consider this: the pair of them have between them 1,781 wins. Truly remarkable.
Elon had, as Coach K said after the game, a shooter’s chance of getting hot and pulling off an upset, but not that much of one. The other side of that coin is that in order for a team to have a shooter’s chance the defense has to let them. And in this game, coming as it did after exams, Duke bent a bit but never came close to breaking.
They did have a potentially serious problem when Nolan Smith picked up his fourth foul early in the second half but had more than enough to overcome it.

Junior center Assane Sene tipped in a missed free throw with 4.8 seconds remaining in the game to give the Virginia men's basketball team a 50-49 victory over Norfolk State Monday night (Dec. 20) at John Paul Jones Arena.
The victory was the fifth in a row for the Cavaliers who improved to 8-3 on the season and are now 5-0 at home. Norfolk State lost its seventh consecutive game and dropped to 1-8.
Virginia held an opponent under 50 points for the third consecutive game. It's the first time UVa has done that since the 1948-49 season.
Senior forwards Mike Scott and Will Sherrill did not play in the game for Virginia because of injuries. Scott missed his second consecutive game while Sherrill has missed the Cavaliers' last four games.
