This won't be too long an entry. I'm feeling a little under weather, but it's a good weekend of sports with the College Football Bowl season getting underway, the NFL jockeying for playoff spots, and college basketball starting to get really going.
I took a look at Seth Davis's article at CNNSI.com previewing some of the weekend's best games.
Of the games he's listed, the most interesting one is #22 Texas at UNC. No ACC team outside of Duke has stepped up and played consistently well. In fact several ACC teams haven't even played well sporadically. Wake Forest Georgia Tech I'm talking to you. You've looked downright awful several times this year. North Carolina could really use a good game here. Other than their win over Kentucky, they don't have any other noteworthy victories. A win would solidify UNC as 2nd or 3rd best team in the ACC.
Virginia Tech is in a virtual must win game with Mississippi State. Seth Greenburg doesn't want the NCAA committee come March looking down at the Hokies non-conference results. Last year it was weak strength of schedule particularly in the non-conference. This year there are opponents but at 5-4 there is a real lack of quality non-conference wins.
